Santiago de Compostela

Declared a World Heritage City by UNESCO thanks to the magnificent conservation and great cultural significance of the city, Santiago de Compostela is the final destination of the well-known pilgrimage route "Way of St. James". The Cathedral, last stop in the pilgrim´s journey, stands in the magnificent "Plaza del Obradoiro" Square, the point at which all roads into de old city converge. The Obradoiro´s façade of the Cathedral is the most photographed picture of the monument and it's considered to be one of the supreme expressions of the Spanish Baroque. Beneath the main altar stands the tomb of St. James and it is here, at the church transept, that we can admire the famous "Botafumeiro".
